DAMA's Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) is the leading data management certification — covering 14 DAMA DMBOK knowledge areas across data governance, data quality, master data management, data architecture, data security, and more. But the CDMP is essentially a self-study exam requiring hundreds of hours of independent reading from a 600+ page textbook, followed by multiple choice examinations. It tests knowledge recall, not the ability to design a data governance framework, conduct a data quality assessment, or build a data mesh architecture. XDATA builds these applied skills.
Across five instructor-led days, XDATA covers the core DAMA DMBOK knowledge areas with direct practical application: data governance programme design, data quality lifecycle management, data architecture and data modelling, master data and reference data management, data integration, metadata management, data security and privacy governance, business intelligence data management, and modern data architecture patterns including data mesh and data lakehouse. The programme reflects 2025 data management realities — cloud-native data platforms, AI/ML data governance, and data product thinking.
On Day 5, participants design a data governance framework and data quality programme for a simulated enterprise. A senior data management practitioner assesses the framework design, data quality methodology, and governance structure. XDATA certificate and Practitioner Assessment Report issued. Aligned with DAMA DMBOK2, DCAM (EDM Council), ISO 8000 data quality, GDPR data governance, UK Government Data Quality Framework, and FAIR data principles.
Hands-on data quality assessment exercises, data governance RACI design, metadata management framework development, data lineage documentation, and data governance programme design on Day 5.
Mentor-led sessions covering real data governance failure case studies, data quality programme implementation challenges in cloud-native environments, and how data mesh and data products are changing the data governance landscape in 2025.
Design and govern enterprise data management programmes across data governance, data quality, master data, and data architecture domains — aligned to DAMA DMBOK, modern cloud data platforms, and data regulatory obligations.
Design enterprise data governance frameworks including governance bodies, data ownership, data stewardship, policies, and standards aligned to DAMA DMBOK2
Implement data quality lifecycle management including profiling, quality rules, KPI dashboards, and root cause analysis programmes
Design master data management programmes including golden record design, MDM hub architecture selection, and reference data governance
Apply modern data architecture patterns including data mesh domain ownership, data product design, and data lakehouse governance
Govern AI and ML data including training data quality, model data lineage, EU AI Act Article 10 data governance requirements, and feature store governance
Align data management programmes to regulatory requirements including UK GDPR, NHS Data Standards, DORA ICT data management, and UK Government Data Quality Framework
Minimum 2 years in a data management, business intelligence, data engineering, or data governance role
Basic understanding of data concepts: databases, data models, and data quality challenges in organisations
Familiarity with at least one data platform: SQL databases, cloud data warehouse, or data lake environment

The Practitioner Assessment Report documents applied data management capability. XDATA is practical; CDMP is theoretical recall.
