# XPRI: Xcademia Privacy and Data Protection Practitioner

> The XPRI Certification Programme is the practitioner standard for privacy and data protection professionals who implement GDPR compliance programmes, conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments, advise on international data transfers, and govern data protection across complex multi-regulation environments. Assessed on Day 5 through a supervised DPIA and privacy programme design scenario. No MCQs. No membership fees. No annual maintenance.

## Overview

Data protection is one of the most complex compliance disciplines in the UK and EU market. The GDPR has been in force since 2018 and organisations continue to fail audits, receive enforcement notices, and pay fines. The IAPP CIPP/E is the leading privacy certification but it is a 90-question multiple choice exam that tests legal knowledge recall, not the practical ability to conduct a DPIA, design a Records of Processing Activities framework, or advise a board on cross-border data transfer mechanisms. XPRI builds practitioners who can do the work.

Across five instructor-led days, participants build data protection practitioner capability across the complete privacy professional remit: UK GDPR and EU GDPR legal foundations and post-Brexit divergence, lawful basis analysis, data subject rights management, DPIA methodology, international data transfers and the post-Schrems II landscape, privacy by design and default, data breach response and ICO notification, processor and supplier management, and sector-specific requirements including NHS DSPT, financial services, and AI systems processing personal data.

On Day 5, participants conduct a complete DPIA for a complex AI-enabled data processing scenario and design a privacy governance structure. A senior practitioner assesses DPIA methodology, legal analysis quality, and governance framework design. XPRI certificate and Practitioner Assessment Report issued. Aligned with UK GDPR, EU GDPR, ICO Accountability Framework, EDPB guidelines, ISO 27701, PECR, NHS DSPT, and DORA data protection requirements.

## Frequently asked questions

** How does XPRI compare to IAPP CIPP/E?**

CIPP/E is a 90 MCQ exam testing legal knowledge recall. It costs $550 for the exam plus $150 annual membership and $250 per year maintenance fee. XPRI is 5 instructor-led days applied to real scenarios: lawful basis analysis, DPIA completion, international transfer assessment, and DPA drafting, assessed on Day 5 through a supervised DPIA and programme design. The Practitioner Assessment Report documents what was designed, not a multiple choice score.

**Does XPRI cover post-Brexit UK GDPR distinctly from EU GDPR?**

Yes. The programme explicitly addresses UK GDPR (the retained version with UK modifications) and EU GDPR as parallel but distinct regimes. This includes the UK IDTA vs EU SCCs, ICO vs EU supervisory authority roles, UK adequacy for EEA data flows, and the divergence risk between UK and EU GDPR going forward. Most UK organisations must manage both regimes simultaneously.

** Does XPRI cover AI and machine learning data protection?**

Yes. Day 5 covers AI systems processing personal data in depth: profiling and Article 22 automated decisions, AI training data as personal data, model transparency as a data protection obligation, bias as a potential GDPR violation, DPIA requirements for AI systems per EDPB guidelines, and the intersection between GDPR and EU AI Act Article 9 documentation requirements.

** Is XPRI suitable for non-lawyers?**

Absolutely. Most DPOs and privacy managers are not lawyers. XPRI teaches privacy law in practical application language, not legal theory. The programme is designed for compliance managers, IT governance professionals, data managers, and information governance specialists. Legal professionals attend for the practical implementation methodology that legal training does not provide.

**What career paths does XPRI support?**

DPO: £50,000 to £90,000 UK or £500 to £1,000 per day as DPO-as-a-Service. Privacy Manager: £55,000 to £85,000. Compliance Manager (data protection): £50,000 to £80,000. DPO appointments are mandatory for many organisations under Article 37 GDPR, creating sustained demand across all sectors.
